LON23576 Russian Federation. Kaliningrad. 2001.Memorial to those soldiers killed recently in Chetchnya. At the Museum of History & Art.Badly damaged during the air raids in 1944, the 'Stadthalle' concert hall stood in ruins until 1991, when the reconstructed building opened again as the regional Museum of History and Art. A brief exhibition traces the history of Konigsberg and the natural history of the region including a fascinating display on a recent archaelogical dig. The most interesting display, covering the transformation of the city from 1945 - 1950, is set obscurely in a back room. The second floor is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War (that's WWII to most of us).

akg8426086 Nazi propaganda / NSDAP Party / 20th Century. Wochenspruch der NSDAP ("Weekly Quotation of the Nazi Party") : "Sacrifice created the Greater German Empire. Through sacrifice it will be made eternal". Nazi propaganda is preparing minds for the coming all-out war and, in particular, for the expansion to the East that would begin with Operation Barbarossa in June 1941, which would cost Germany millions of lives and all country victims of this military action, the largest theater of operations of the Second World War (civilian and military losses on the Eastern Front are estimated at around 30 million people, or about half of the deaths linked to the Second World War). (Wall newspaper published by the Nazi Party between 1937 and 1944, displaying quotations, mostly from Nazi leaders. About 1,100 issues were published. Some were issued by the Reichspropagandaleitung and others by local party organizations in each Gau. Along with Nazi leaders, the posters also quoted famous Germans from history, including Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl von Clausewitz, Otto von Bismarck, Friedrich Schiller and Richard Wagner. The posters were displayed in many public locations including town halls, restaurants, doctor's offices, offices, schools or companies. Some historians estimate that 32.5 million copies were printed in total. The purpose of the publication was to educate Germans about Nazi ideals and values). Wall newspaper, 1941. Private collection.
